The above data is on a 0-10 point scale. A rating of "10" would mean
finding a new job in that industry right away is extremely likely. A
rating of "0" would mean finding a new job in that industry right away is
almost impossible. The "+" and "-" represent the change in ranking from the
previous month.

The job market composite held
relatively steady this month, and actually registered a slight
improvement, month on month. But this improvement was largely thanks to a
few key industries that made large moves, thereby compensating for what
was general weakness across most of our other industries:
Banking and Brokerage continues
it's strong recovery. We've lately been noticing a lot of clients finding
success, especially in the retail banking sector.
Biotech and Science registered a
strong jump, as we are seeing more and more clients finding jobs in
especially the biotech arena. Three years ago or so, Biotech was the
definition of a "hot" industry, and we used to see Biotech clients all the
time. This sector has been largely dormant for the past few years, and we
are unsure if this means we are seeing a turnaround in the industry. All
we know is that we are seeing significant numbers of clients searching for
jobs in biotech, and having considerable success finding work.
Education and Teaching saw a
large move this month. Just a few months ago, state and government budget
cuts seemed to be terrorizing plenty of career teachers who heretofore had
felt their jobs were safe. Either those cuts have not happened, or they
are not occurring with the ferocity that our clients were fearing. Our
education clients seem to be having normalized success finding work, both
in the public school sector and in the university/institution sector.
Another factor in this might be seasonal, so we'll have to wait and see
before we can make any sort of judgment one way or the other..
Finally, Healthcare and Medical
saw a very strong move upward. Again, our clients seem to be finding
success across the board in this industry, especially in Hospitals and
private practice-type doctors offices.
As for the down side, most of the moves
were incremental with few real story sectors. The Automotive
industry still seems to be very weak, but this comes after several years
of weakness. Our clients in this industry seem always to be anticipating
new rounds of layoffs.
